Hello Parents, During this time of social distancing and the abrupt closure of schools, the District wants to ensure that each of our students have an opportunity to improve their Quarter 3 grades. All students will be given the opportunity to earn 5 additional points towards their Quarter 3grade only in my Reading class. I will be issuing a Grade Improvement Assignment. Please note that this assignment is optional. If you do not want your child to complete the assignment, there is no penalty. Your child’s grade will remain the same. Quarter 3 grades have been uploaded to Power School for you to view.
If you would like for your child to participate in the Quarter 3 Grade Improvement Assignment, your child will have until May 11, 2020 to complete the two-part assignment. No late work will be accepted.
The skill that I have decided to focus my Grade Improvement Assignment on is "Point of View". The first part of the assignment is to watch a video explaining how to determine point of view in a text in Discovery Ed. The second part is an assessment on point of view using different text. The students must complete both parts in order to receive the full 5 points. Lowrance has decided to use Discovery Education for the students to view the video, and USA Test Prep for the assessment. Both of these platforms are new to the students, so I have explained below how to access them. Part 1: Discovery Education Discovery Education provides videos, activities, virtual field trips, and lessons to the students. The students will need to log into Clever to access Discovery Education.
Step 1: Students should go to clever and click on Discovery Ed.
Step 2: Enter your 6-digit student ID for the username. Step 3: Your password is your birthday. (Example – April 28, 2008 à 04282008) Step 4: Once you enter in your login information, it should bring you to my ELA video assignment, which is Literature Kids: Basic Literary Terms: Vol 2, Point of View. Step 5: The students are to watch the video carefully, for it is giving them instructions on how to determine a point of view while reading. Step 6:Before leaving Discovery Education, make sure the students mark the assignment complete at the top.
Part Two: USA Test Prep Once the students have finished reviewing the video, they must complete the assessment on USA Test Prep. The instructions on how to access the assessment are below. How to log onto USATestPrep 1. Go to the following website. Right Click on the link below or copy and paste in a new tab. www.usatestprep.com/member-login Member Login - USATestprep Login to your USATestprep student, teacher or administrator account. www.usatestprep.com
2. YourAccount ID: lowrance23(this is for the whole school) 3. Your username is thesame six-digit numberyou use onClever. 4. Yourpassword is your birthday. The way your type in your birthday is slightly different than the way you do in Clever. Here is how to type in your birthday. For Example: 4/28/2008à4282008 For Example: 12/6/2007à1262007 5. Once they log on, they should see the assignment. They will also see assignments for their other teachers as well. Make sure they click on the correct class. I have the classes labeled by their homeroom teacher. I'm not sure if it will ask for an assessment code once they are in the system, so I am going to provide this code just in case. The assessment code is: LAPAXEM0K0 I know this is a lot of information. Once the students log onto Discovery Education, all these instructions will be there for them. If you have any questions, please email me. Remember the due date is May 11th.
May 4-18, 2020 Reading Hello, I hope all is well with you and your family. It is an unfortunate time and I hope you are being safe out there. To help students stay abreast with learning, I have added some assignments on IReady. I will upload 10 lessons at a time, in which you can have your child do 5 lessons a week. I will upload 10 new lessons every two weeks.Your child already knows his/her IReady username and password for they use it often at school. The Username is their ID number and the password is the month, day, & full year of birthdate. It is also important that you have your child read a novel or magazine daily. A few good websites to use is newsela.com, timeforkids.com is giving children free access for the rest of the school year, and Sports Illustrated for kids (sikids.com). I hope this helps as we ride out this journey. Continue to go to our scsk12.org website for additional information about our upcoming school year. Thanks in advance!
